ASCII IBM i FTP client subcommand (Change file type to ASCII)

There are two basic file types that can be used when transferring files using FTP.

  • ASCII
  • BINARY
  • ASCII files are plain text files having extensions like .txt or no extension at all. On the other hand, BINARY files are programs or non-text files saved in the format of the application. We can use ASCII file transfer type when transferring text files to or from an ASCII system that does not support EBCDIC. ASCII is the default transfer type if not specified. ASCII only supports the default format NON PRINT.
